Zip Slides are proving a Flying Success!

Zip slide participants in fancy dress

During 2007 we have seen a great deal of enthusiasm and excitement about zip slides. There have been some fantastic venues used this year and the sums raised were very worthwhile. Marie Curie Cancer Care ran two of the most successful events at two great locations. 360 people threw themselves off the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle which raised over £56,000 and a similar number of people launched themselves from the Air Shard of the Imperial War Museum, Manchester, raising £63,000.

Zip Slides require a lot more planning and event management and due to the high numbers of participants require an effective marketing plan. ACE events are able to zip 180 participants per a day on a standard zip wire.

Remember that our open events offer you the opportunity to use zip slides for your fundraising without the headaches. For example, our open event at Newport Transporter Bridge is a great venue and one of the biggest zips in the country!

Neurocare Nabarro's 3 Peaks

ACE was happy to provide safety cover for Nabarros attempt on the National 3 Peaks on 7th September.

The intrepid team, who were comprised of staff from all over the country, set off from Sheffield on Friday afternoon. We reached our accommodation at 11pm tired and ready to get some sleep before the Big Push.

After breakfast we headed off for the start of Ben Nevis! The weather was generally poor but we soon made our way to the summit - unfortunately there wasn't anything to see as the mist was so thick so we turned around and began the descent.

We were soon on the road heading South trying to eat and drink and rest before the ascent of Scafell. This was done at night and the summit was again greeted with a total lack of visibility (well it was 3 in the morning)!

Tired legs and minds turned towards the final drive and the final challenge. Snowden is a great challenge on its own but after climbing two others you certainly feel every step! The weather was once again poor but the team stuck together and made it down in one group. We missed the 24 hour challenge but it was an excellent effort. Well done

Chris Ryan Abseil Challenge

ACE was called upon for an unusual job, to assist the ex- special forces author, Chris Ryan to abseil from the airshard at the Imperial War Museum, Manchester; Not that he needed our help!!!

The Launch of the Whole Hog Adventure Race Series...

Whole hog logo

This November saw the launch of our new and exciting event series- The Whole Hog! In total over 250 competitors of all abilities braved the weather (and mud) to complete our hog challenges for the benefit of over 25 different charities; and what a blast they had! Feedback was extensive and gratefully received; we have taken it all on board and have an even bigger, better and muddier line up of Hog events for 2008! The Whole Hog will have dedicated online material including race reports, results and 2008 booking information, up and running within the next few weeks.

We would like to congratulate and thank all those who raised sponsorship to race and all those charity representatives who took the opportunity to be involved in the series in its fledgling year; we're glad that it was such a success and that so much was raised for the various good causes. Please take a look at the photos to get a feel for the format of the races and the fun that was had:

We defy anyone to refuse a piece of the action in 2008 (especially as we have reduced entry fees across all events!) We will start taking 2008 Whole Hog bookings in January!

London Rat Race

ACE once again provided all of the safety support and high ropes rigging for the London Rat Race. The high point of the day was abseiling over 500 people from Twickenham Stadium in just 4 hours!!! It was some achievement and it was an excellent course set by the Rat Race team.
